Resolution, Aspect Ratio, Square Pixels – huh?

Square Pixels means: your resolution must match the aspect ratio. For example, you shot in 4:3, but your output is 720 x 480 which is 3:2 "pixel aspect ratio" (720 divided by 480) - i.e. not a valid resolution for your aspect ratio (yet a common mistake by the way). Your image would appear squeezed. You need to scale your output to 848 x 480 (16:9) or 640 x 480 (4:3) in this case.

As long as the pixels are square and the picture is not stretched or squeezed, we accept almost all resolutions. Here are the most common ones. Pick one to be safe. Never scale down though, and never add black bars.
